Two towns in Dorset have been named in the running for England’s ‘worst’ place to live – with members of the public given the chance to vote. The website iLiveHere.co.uk, a satirical website which sees residents lining up to mock their own town, invites users to nominate the worst places to live in the country.

Dorset escaped the critical and negative eye of the website’s users in 2022, but two areas of Dorset made the shortlist before the New Year deadline. At the time of writing, the list shows Poole and Bournemouth have been shortlisted and have already received a number of votes.

Early polling shows that Poole and Bournemouth won’t be high up the infamous list, with Peterborough and Liverpool leading the way. We have in the past covered some of the scathing reviews left on the website, including in 2020 when Boscombe was ranked the 33rd worst place to live in the country.

The review labelled the town as “the drug capital of the south” before making some unsavoury comments about its residents. We hit back at the claims, and cited its thriving shops, well-performing schools and attractions why Boscombe unfairly gets a bad reputation.

This year’s nominations are no different. One scathing review about Bournemouth claimed it’s awful for a day out and don’t expect the weather to be pleasant. We hit back at the claims, and cited its busy and bustling atmosphere, home to the iconic Bournemouth Pier along the stunning beach, as well as attracting big name acts to Bournemouth International Centre.

iLiveHere.co.uk claimed Poole is “full of groups and gangs” and “not a very nice place to come on holiday, unless you live down Sandbanks or over to the Purbeck”. We however believe that Poole is a vibrant town with plenty to see and do. From cafes and restaurants that attract the rich and famous to Poole Quay which offers stunning displays such as the annual summer fireworks and Bonfire events. The community is very close knit and offers kindness wherever they can, which just adds to the town’s charm.

Voting for this year’s awards closes on January 31.
