Police: Stratford man hit by vehicle on Merritt Parkway in Greenwich

GREENWICH — A Stratford man suffered a serious injury when he was hit by a vehicle while offering another driver help on the Merritt Parkway Thursday night, according to police.
A 61-year-old Norwich man was on the shoulder of Route 15 north near Exit 31 around 9:30 p.m. with a disabled vehicle, a Connecticut State Police report said.
The 45-year-old Stratford resident stopped in the right lane and offered the Norwich man help, the report said.
As the two vehicles were pulled over, with both drivers standing near the Norwich man’s vehicle on the shoulder, two other drivers were approaching the area in the right lane, the report said: a 24-year-old Stamford man and a 23-year-old Long Valley, N.J., man.
Seeing the Stratford man’s vehicle in the right lane, the Stamford resident switched lanes and braked. Police said the New Jersey man also switched lanes and rear-ended the Stamford man’s vehicle.
The force of the impact caused the Stamford man’s vehicle to veer off the road, hitting the Stratford man, his vehicle and the Norwich man’s vehicle, police said. There were no other injuries.
The Stratford man was taken to Stamford Hospital with a serious but not life-threatening injury, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
