Piers Morgan has pointed the finger at Arsenal’s transfer policy after they were eliminated from the FA Cup.

The Gunners lost 2-0 to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, with a Jakub Kiwior own-goal and a Luis Diaz strike sending Jurgen Klopp’s side into the fourth round.

Arsenal were dominant in the first half, with 55 per cent possession and managing 18 shots on goal with five on target.

It meant Arsenal have now lost three successive matches in all competitions and secured just one victory in their last seven games.

TalkTV host Morgan, who is an avid Gunners fan, blamed his side’s slump for not bringing in a striker.

“We didn’t need a new goalkeeper, and we definitely didn’t need Havertz for £67million. We needed a proper striker,” he wrote on X.

“This awful run is on you, @m8arteta – stop being so stubborn and sign someone who can score goals, or our whole season will be over very soon.”

Arteta revealed his side may not enter the market for a striker this January, despite fans calling on the club to bring in necessary firepower.

Arsenal have netted five times in their last seven games, but missed striker Gabriel Jesus for the defeat to Liverpool.

Having arrived from Manchester City in 2022, the Brazil international has been blighted by injuries ever since.

Kai Havertz joined the club in a £67m move from Chelsea in the summer, though he is not a prolific goalscorer or a player Arsenal can count on consistently.

If the Gunners are to revive their title charge in the second half of the campaign, then it would certainly be wise for them to dip into the transfer market.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is a player who continues to be linked with the north London club, but it remains to be seen whether Thomas Frank’s side will entertain any offers this winter.

Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League with 40 points, and they entertain Crystal Palace at home in their upcoming encounter next weekend.

However, speaking after the Emirates defeat, Arsenal boss Arteta admitted the club’s wallet will remain closed for the time being.

He told beIN SPORTS: “At the moment it doesn’t look realistic [to sign a new striker].

“What my job is and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get with the players we have better results and I think at the end of the day that match normally ends up in a really good way.”
