Hitting your first Major League Baseball home run is a special feeling, but to do it in your first-ever game in the big leagues is something else entirely.
On Wednesday, Weston Wilson got his first start at the MLB level in left field for the Philadelphia Phillies as the team hosted the Washington Nationals. In the bottom of the second, Wilson made his way to the plate for his first at-bat of his MLB career and on the third pitch he faced, he blasted it for a home run.
At 28-years-old, Wilson had more than 2,800 plate appearances in the minors across seven seasons, never once earning a call up. Talk about making the most of your first-ever MLB at-bat! Not only that, Wilson’s dad was especially emotional in the stands — as was his whole family!
What an incredibly special moment for Wilson and his family that will no doubt be cherished for a lifetime.
