Phillies vs. Diamondbacks live updates, highlights: NLCS gets going with Zack Wheeler, Zac Gallen on the mound
Wheeler #Wheeler
The National League side of the postseason bracket resumed Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Philadelphia Phillies are hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series. The Phillies are in the NLCS for the second straight year. This is Arizona’s first trip since 2007, and only the third in franchise history. Here’s how you can watch Game 1, which got started with a bang in the bottom half of the first.
Phillies leadoff hitter Kyle Schwarber smashed the first pitch he saw 117 mph for a leadoff home run against Zac Gallen. Bryce Harper, playing for the first time ever on his birthday, celebrated with a solo home run of his own on the fifth pitch of the game. Nick Castellanos added another solo home run (his fifth in his last three games) in the second to make it 3-0. The Phillies added to their lead with RBI singles from Harper in the fourth and J.T. Realmuto in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Each team started their ace in Game 1: Zack Wheeler vs. Gallen. Both right-handers were terrific in their first two postseason starts. The Phillies have the deeper lineup and pitching staff while the D-backs have a better defense and much more team speed. The NLCS will be a battle between two contrasting teams.
