Economy and Finance Minister Oscar Graham on Tuesday underscored the importance of mining production in the Peruvian economy during his participation in two events dedicated to Peru, which were attended by business leaders and investors in the global mining sector.

Minister Graham participated in Peru Day and CEO Luncheon, forums in which he told investors and business leaders that the mining sector currently represents 12.1% of GDP and makes up 63% of Peru’s total exports.

“Mining is the most productive sector in the Peruvian economy,” he emphasized.

His remarks were delivered to an audience consisting mainly of representatives of producing, exploration, supplier companies in the mining and financial sectors.

The government official stated that the Executive Branch is working on a package of measures to promote mining investment and, at the same time, improve the welfare of the population living close to mining areas.

He went on to say that, in order to promote the narrowing of social and productive gaps, specialized teams will be deployed in mining areas to unblock public investment projects, and special project execution units will be created to monitor the implementation of public investment.

Moreover, productive programs will be improved and strengthened to develop projects with greater impact.

Likewise, the Executive Branch seeks to make the approval, regulation, and audit of mining permits more expeditious in a bid to promote greater mining investment.
