‘Perfecta’: Golden goddess Shakira rocks the VMAs in glitter, sequins and safety pins

Shakira was a vision in Versace Tuesday night at the MTV VMAs at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The Colombiana went through a few costume changes over the course of the evening, each as stunning as the next.
The 46-year-old arrived with her two sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, in a backless chainmail hip-hugging gown that had cut-outs along the sides and a thigh high slit.
Later Shak slipped into something more comfortable, a gold sequined mini dress, so that she could better shimmy on stage for a bilingual medley of all her hits.
To accept her Best Collaboration award with Karol G for “TQG” (Te Quedo Grande), Shakira channeled Elizabeth Hurley back in the day with a baby blue frock held together with safety pins.
Sí, señorita. It was Shakira’s night to shine, literally. She was honored with Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the first South American artist to receive the coveted Moon Person trophy since the ceremony began in 1984.
The lifetime achievement award is given to entertainers who have a profound impact on pop culture in general.
“Thank you MTV. Thank you for being such a big part of my career since I was only 18 years old,” she began her speech, in which she also gave a shout-out to her fans for being her “army,” and her adorable kids, watching her in the audience.
“Thank you so much for cheering me up,” said the superstar, “and for making me feel that mama can do it all.”
(Take that, Gerard Pique.)
On the VMAs Instagram page there is a pinned picture of the “She Wolf” singer striking her signature sultry pose while wielding two knives: “Legend has it our hips are still shaking.”
Someone in the comments summed up Shakira’s spectacular outing in one word: “Perfecta.”
