Penny Mordaunt said the Labour party had ‘done damage’ to the office of the speaker as more than 50 MPs signed a motion of no confidence in Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
Mordaunt said it had fallen to the government to defend the rights of the Scottish National Party and added that the Labour party should reflect on the damage it had done to the office of the speaker.
