Quarterback Christian Veilleux, who came off the bench to lead Penn State past Rutgers last year, announced Tuesday that he will enter his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
Veilleux ended spring practice presumably as the No. 2 quarterback behind incumbent starter Sean Clifford. Highly regarded freshman Drew Allar, however, was named Clifford’s primary backup by coach James Franklin near the end of preseason camp.

Allar has played in 10 games this season, completing 35-of-59 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-4, 194-pound Veilleux has played in three games, going 7-for-9 for 44 yards.
“Being at Penn State has been nothing short of a blessing,” Veilleux wrote on social media. “I want to thank my teammates, coaches and staff for memories that I’ll cherish forever.”

“I will be entering my name in the transfer portal with three years of eligibility.”
Veilleux, who’s from Ottawa, Ontario, was rated a four-star prospect by ESPN while he played at the Bullis School in Maryland.
He replaced an ailing Clifford last year against Rutgers and completed 15-of-24 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-0 win.
His departure leaves Allar, fellow freshman Beau Pribula and incoming freshman Jaxon Smolik as the only scholarship quarterbacks on the Penn State roster going into 2023.
