Penn State benches Sean Clifford, brings in Will Levis after another slow start, this time at Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. — Penn State has finally made a change at quarterback.
The Lions benched veteran starter Sean Clifford for backup Will Levis on Saturday after yet another slow start for the offense, this time at Nebraska.
Head coach James Franklin was forced to make the switch after Clifford fumbled in PSU territory while under pressure from Cornhuskers’ safety Deontai Williams, who scooped up the loose ball and rumbled 26 yards for a touchdown.
It was the second time in two weeks that a Clifford fumble was returned for a touchdown, and he also had an interception earlier in the game thanks to a horrid throw that was intended to Jahan Dotson. It led to seven points for the home team.
Franklin clearly gave Clifford as much leash as he possibly could, but it’s been a bad year for the Ohio native, who was five of eight for 37 yards when he was pulled. The offense’s only chance at a touchdown while he was in stalled out after he never saw tight end Brenton Strange wide-open in the end zone. That led to a field goal.
Levis immediately sparked the Penn State offense, as he drove into Nebraska territory after starting at the PSU 25. Alas, that drive stalled out, too, in the red zone, leading to another Lions field goal. It’s 24-6 Cornhuskers late in the second quarter.
