Paul Gallen earns stunning first-round knockout victory over former world heavyweight champion Lucas Browne

Paul Gallen has sensationally earned a first round knockout win over former heavyweight champion of the world Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne in Wollongong.

Gallen floored Browne just over a minute into the first round with a furious combo in close. Browne regained his feet and kept fighting, but wasn’t completely clear-headed.

Tasting blood in the water, the former Sharks captain went in for the kill, landing another flurry of punches in close and sending Browne to the canvas again.

This time, he didn’t get up, giving Gallen a first round KO with 1:15 remaining in the round.

Earlier, Liam Wilson got stuck into Francis Chua as if they were mortal enemies, staring him down at the end of a torrid first round.

Looking to repeat his monumental upset of 2018, when he earned a decision win over rising star Kye McKenzie, Chua was all-out aggression, getting some good shots on Wilson in close.

Both men ended the bout bloodied, but it was Wilson who took a unanimous decision win.

Jack Brubaker’s bout with Stevie Spark had fight-of-the-night written all over it, and Brubaker started well, dropping the ‘The Viking’ in the first.

Spark worked back into the fight, finding a home for a big right hand on the way to a unanimous decision victory.

Bruno Tarimo and Kye McKenzie went to war for the IBF international and IBO inter-continental super featherweight titles in the second fight on the pay-per-view portion of the card.

As always, Tarimo was a relentless, all-action buzzsaw on attack, while the rugged McKenzie barely took a backward step over 10 rounds before Tarimo walked out with a unanimous decision win.

Lenny Zappavigna returned after three years to stop Danny Kennedy in the third round at welterweight. It was Zappavigna’s first bout since a fight-of-the-year war with Alex Saucedo in the US in 2018 and he says he’s interested in a fight with Jeff Horn in the future.

Viviana Ruiz kicked the night off with a third round TKO win over Bec Moss, before highly touted heavyweight Jackson Murray dropped Webster Teaupa twice on the way to a first round knockout victory.
