Paul Cook, Eddie Howe, Nigel Pearson, Tony Pulis, Danny Cowley – the early favourites to take over at Sheffield Wednesday

SportFootballSheffield Wednesday PAUL COOK has been made the early favourite to become the next Sheffield Wednesday manager.

The former Wigan Athletic chief is priced as short as evens with some bookmakers to take over at Hillsborough following the dismissal of Garry Monk.

Cook guided Portsmouth to the League Two title in 2017 and joined Wigan the following season and led the Latics to the League One title and on an impressive FA Cup run that claimed three shocks against top-flight opponents West Ham United, Bournemouth and Manchester City.

He left the DW Stadium at the end of last season following the club’s relegation due to a 12-point deduction for entering administration.

Nigel Pearson, is also in the frame according to the betting markets.

The former Leicester City manager has been without a job since being sacked by Watford before the end of last campaign.

The Owls are also tipped to turn to former Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley.

Cowley was sacked by the Terriers at the end of last season, despite helping them escape relegation after a horrendous start to the season.

He guided the Imps from the National League into League One and led the club to their first game at Wembley as they beat Shrewsbury Town in the EFL trophy final in 2018.

Tony Pulis and Eddie Howe are also tipped to take over in South Yorkshire.

Pulis hasn’t managed since leaving Middlesbrough in 2019 while Howe has been without a role since leaving Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
