Patriots sign former Cowboys QB Will Grier to active roster, per report

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Will Grier is getting his shot on an NFL roster.
The New England Patriots signed Grier, who was on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad, to the 53-man roster on Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Grier will serve as a backup to Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.

Grier showed out in the Cowboys’ preseason finale against the Raiders last month. Grier finished 29-of-35 for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He added 10 carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

However, after the Cowboys traded for 49ers quarterback Trey Lance he was informed he was no longer a part of their future plans.
The Carolina Panthers drafted Will Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. The Panthers cut Grier in 2021 after he appeared in two career games. Dallas picked him up off waivers shortly after his release.

The Cowboys will host Grier and the Patriots on Oct. 1 at AT&T Stadium.
