Patriots guard shoots down ‘false narrative’ after Mac Jones interception

There’s been plenty of speculation whether Mac Jones has lost the locker room amid a horrendous Patriots season, but his teammates continue to back him week after week. That remained true Sunday when Mike Onwenu took to social media to shoot down a “false narrative.”
Cameras caught the guard bumping into the quarterback on the sideline after an interception against the Giants. FOX Sports posted the clip with the emoji without a mouth. While some may have thought it was intentional, Onwenu made sure to clear the air on what happened during that interaction.
“False narrative,” Onwenu posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This is me telling Mac to keep his head up. Not bumping him intentionally.”

It’s a narrative that has followed the Patriots for weeks now. The handling of the quarterbacks has been less than ideal, with coach Bill Belichick telling everyone to be “ready to go” rather than just naming a starter. First-team reps reportedly were split during the bye week and no one seems to know exactly when Jones was named the starter for Week 12.
Sunday marked the ninth loss of the season for the Patriots after falling 10-7 to the Giants. Any chance of a winning season is out the window, and the quarterback situation has been a bit of a mess all season. Jones has been benched three times, and was replaced by Zappe in the Week 12 loss. Reports surfaced before kickoff that the plan was to use both quarterbacks.
Despite the struggles under center, many players have come to the defense of Jones, telling reporters he hasn’t lost the locker room. There’s no indication if Jones will start Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but it’s clear if it is him, Onwenu has his back.
