Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley torched Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns on Monday morning, following the Suns’ embarrassing blowout defeat at home in Game 7 against the Mavericks.

The Suns trailed by 30 at halftime, the largest deficit in a Game 7 at half in NBA history, and went on to lose 123-90. As a guest on ESPN the following morning, Beverley went off on Paul in particular, arguing that the media hasn’t fairly criticized his game.

According to Beverley, Paul has the defensive intensity of a cone used for dribbling drills, and deserves the type of “slander” that Ben Simmons has received in the last year.

Patrick Beverley: “He should have fouled out. He can’t guard. He literally can’t guard.”

Stephen A. Smith: “He can’t guard? Chris Paul can’t guard anybody, is that what you’re saying?”

Patrick Beverley: “Did you see the… no, he can’t! Everyone knows that.”

Stephen A. Smith: “Excuse me, I don’t know that. I haven’t heard anybody tell me that.”

Patrick Beverley: “Yeah, cause you haven’t suited up. You know guys don’t like to tell you all the truth, you know that, because they scared.

…. Man, CP can’t guard nobody man, everybody in the NBA know that. Everybody know that. What we call it? Cone. You know what you do with cones, like in the summertime, you got a cone. You make a move. What does the cone do? [Greenberg: Stays still.] Exactly, he’s a cone. Stop playing man, everybody knows that. Everyone knows that, it’s just y’all don’t want to accept it because he’s CP… but give him the Ben Simmons slander. Give him the PG-13 slander. Give him the slander that you give everybody.”

Beverley’s first matchup against Paul next season is going to be must-watch TV.
