Patrice Evra has hit back at Donny van de Beek’s agent after he hit out at the midfielder’s lack of playing time at Manchester United.
The Dutch midfielder joined United for £40million from Ajax in the summer and fans were excited to see him line up alongside Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield.
But the 23-year-old has yet to make a start in the Premier League, and his agent Sjaak Swart was furious he is only appearing as a substitute.

Evra claimed every Manchester United fan was disappointed not to see van de Beek starting
Van de Beek also started on the bench for United in Sunday’s match against Tottenham, but former United left-back Evra said while everyone understands his disappointment, the club have shown they do not ‘really need’ the midfielder’s services.
‘I think the agent of van de Beek should shut his mouth,’ Evra told Sky Sports.
‘I think every United fan is disappointed that van de Beek isn’t starting. I don’t think he’s in competition with Paul Pogba.
‘I don’t understand why van de Beek is not starting yet. It shows you we don’t need him. Is van de Beek going to win the league for us? No.’
Van de Beek has yet to start a Premier League game and has only played 24 top-flight minutes
‘Do we really need van de Beek right now? We are talking about the players who may come more than the players we have actually got.’
Evra’s comments come after Swart told VoetbalPrimeur after United’s 3-2 victory against Brighton in the Premier League: ‘A substitute, I don’t like it at all. I couldn’t do it myself, standing in with four minutes to play.’
‘I have to say he did three more good things. The penalty, where the winning goal came from, it came from him.

‘Normally they should’ve lost 7-1. Brighton hit the post and bar five times. They have a nice team, but that should not happen to Manchester United.’
Before the visit of Tottenham, van de Beek has played just 24 Premier League minutes in games against Crystal Palace – when he scored in a 3-1 defeat – and Brighton.
He has seen more minutes in the Carabao Cup, starting and playing 78 minutes for United in their Carabao Cup win over Luton before playing the whole match against Brighton in the same competition last week.
