This is not what we want to see.
Do not get anything twisted, the San Diego Padres have had their fun moments in this first month of the 2023 MLB season. There have been games where everything is clicking and you have the likes of Nelson Cruz making history, Xander Bogaerts leading the way with homers, and Nando winning the team games quickly into his return.
And then you have other days where their play is almost unwatchable. Numerous innings have been over quickly due to their inability to garner hits. Juan Soto has a current batting average of .183 while Manny Machado has an on base percentage of .259. If two of their most talented and highest-paid players are not producing offense, it’s hard to win games.
Both of these guys have been vocal about trying to work through their struggles and Machado has gone as far to rip any fans that are jumping off the bandwagon. However, it can be hard to stay optimistic when stats like these surface.

Any Padres fan trying to understand why a team that is looking to contend for a World Series title is off to a mediocre 13-14 record should pay close attention to this stat. The Oakland A’s have been the worst team in baseball this year and only have five wins on the year. Their owner is quite literally being begged by fans to sell the team.
Even through all of this, the A’s have still been able to place themselves in better scoring position than the Friars have per game. Improvement is needed soon.
