Ozan Kabak Issues Emotional Liverpool Goodbye

The Turkish defender went to social media to say goodbye to the club and its supporters in an emotional letter.

Liverpool endured an injury riddled 2020/21 campaign.

The Reds were ravaged by injuries across the squad but especially in the centre back department.

Jurgen Klopp’s side saw season ending injuries to Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and the world’s best centre back Virgil van Dijk.

This not only forced Jurgen’s hand but also led to a very disappointing season that ended with no silverware.

Midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were thrust into Liverpool’s backline and made to play as centre backs.

Not to say that the midfielders played poorly, because that would be a bold face lie, but their absence from the centre of the park proved to be more bad than good.

The injuries to Liverpool’s top three centre backs forced the Reds to act in the January transfer window.

Liverpool’s transfer department recruited two centre backs, one on a permanent move and one on a short term loan.

The Anfield club ended up signing Ben Davies from Preston North End in a deal that saw Sepp van den Berg move the other way on loan.

On top of that, Liverpool also brought in Turkish centre back Ozan Kabak on loan from Bundesliga side Schalke 04.

Ben Davies’ Anfield transfer still remains a mystery as he did not feature for a single minute after joining in January.

Kabak, however, proved to be an integral part of Liverpool’s pursuit of Champions League football.

While it may not seem like much, Kabak provided valuable minutes in nine Premier League matches and four Champions League matches.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), Liverpool opted to not keep Ozan Kabak permanently and signed RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate instead.

While he already moved out of his Liverpool home, today he issued an emotional goodbye to the supporters and the club.

He took to Twitter to pen his emotional letter of thanks

“Dear Liverpool family,

I would like to thank you for the compassion and support you have shown towards me, since the day I arrived. I believe the experience I have gathered during my four months stay here has been a very important one. I have learnt a lot from my manager Jurgen Klopp & all of my teammates and I was proud to be part of this special family. I will always remember my days here at Liverpool with great happiness and the special song which you have kindly gifted me.

YNWA.

Ozan”

Ozan Kabak may not be a Liverpool player moving forward, but he will be remembered in Liverpool folklore for his role in securing Champions League football in one of the craziest seasons the Reds have ever endured.

YNWA, Ozan.
