Own goal and David McGoldrick miss ‘Sheffield United’s season in a nutshell’ as Blades lose FA Cup tie to Chelsea

As many would have expected, Chelsea made it through to FA Cup semi-finals as they won 2-0 at home to Sheffield United.

However, the Blades had their fair share of chances at Stamford Bridge and were perhaps the architects of their own downfall as they have been multiple times this season.

The deadlock was broken by Oliver Norwood’s own goal in the first half. The former Northern Ireland international inadvertently beat Aaron Ramsdale as he tried to intercept Ben Chilwell’s shot, which was heading wide.

Hakim Ziyech added another in stoppage-time but Sheffield United contained Thomas Tuchel’s side pretty well throughout and were arguably the better team.

They certainly had the better opportunities in the second half, the pick of them coming on 67 minutes as David McGoldrick headed wide from less than six yards out.

That miss was summed up as ‘Sheffield United’s season in a nutshell’ by talkSPORT’s Troy Deeney on commentary. And you won’t find many Blades fans who’d disagree with that.
