Ontario reports 255 new COVID-19 cases and 11 more deaths

Ontario is reporting another 255 COVID-19 cases and 11 more deaths, according to its latest report released Wednesday morning.
Ontario has administered a record high of 227,318 vaccine doses since its last daily update, with 13,096,628 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night.
According to the Star’s vaccine tracker, 9,752,884 people in Ontario have received at least one shot. That works out to approximately 66.2 per cent of the total population and the equivalent of 76.5 per cent of the adult population.
The tracker says 3,343,744 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve had both doses. That works out to approximately 22.7 per cent of the total population and the equivalent of 27.5 per cent of the adult population.
The seven-day average is at 316 cases daily, or 13 weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s seven-day average for deaths is at 15.3 daily.
The province says 27,364 tests were completed the previous day, and a 1.2 per cent positivity rate.
There are 295 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 305 patients in intensive care. There are 190 people on ventilators.
Locally, Health Minister Christine Elliott says 57 cases are in Toronto, 25 in Peel Region, 53 in Waterloo, 23 in North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and 14 in Ottawa.
Meanwhile, the province is reporting that there were no new deaths in long-term care so the number of residents who have died stays the same at 3,782 since the pandemic began, in the latest report released by the province,
Ontario is also reporting no new long-term-care homes in outbreak, for a total of 9 or 1.4 per cent of LTC homes in the province.
This data is self-reported by the long-term care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.
There are 142,647 confirmed cases in Ontario of the highly contagious variant first detected in the United Kingdom, an increase of 254 from the previous day.
