Only Tiger Woods could trend on Twitter for simply cheering on Serena Williams at the U.S. Open

Serena #Serena

Tiger Woods is the ultimate needle-mover in golf. We know that. Sometimes, though, he can move the needle in a sport he doesn’t even play, which is exactly what he did on Wednesday night at the U.S. Open.

Make no mistake, the night was about Serena Williams, who defeated Anett Kontaveit 7-6 2-6 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, continuing what’s been a magical run in Queens. Last month, Williams announced she’ll “evolve away from tennis” after this U.S. Open, which has made every one of her singles matches must-see TV as it could be her last.

Woods made sure to be there in person Wednesday night, and he was cheering her on as if she was his own flesh and blood. The 15-time major champion had a seat in Serena’s box, alongside girlfriend Erica Herman and Seren’s older sister, Venus. Some of the highlights of the night are below, including a Tiger fist pump usually reserved for a clutch birdie putt on the 72nd hole of a major championship:

Talk about DIALED in. After Williams’ victory, the pair of GOATs were captured embracing in the tunnel in what was easily the coolest moment of the night:

Williams later said that Woods has been a key voice in her ear as she approaches the potential end of a legendary tennis career.

“He’s one of the reasons I’m here, one of the main reasons I’m still playing,” she told reporters. “We talked a lot. He was really trying to get me motivated. There are a few people, but we were like: ‘OK, we can do this together, you know?'”

Welp, that’s pretty freaking awesome. GOATs helping GOATs. You love to see it.
