‘One of the greatest you’ll ever see’: Cricketing world goes nuts after ‘sensational’ catch

Travis Head has produced the catch of the tournament to dismiss danger man Rohit Sharma in the first innings of the World Cup final between Australia and India.

Sharma has been in blistering form this World Cup and was dispatching the Aussie attack to all parts of the ground, racing to 47 from 30 deliveries as India quickly got on the front foot.

The hard-hitting opener was facing Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over and was well and truly on top of the off-spinner, before Australia’s luck turned.

Sharma danced down the pitch to attempt to hit Maxwell back over his head, however mistimed it and the ball ballooned up over cover.

Head had to turn and track the ball over his shoulder before timing his dive perfectly to catch it in what was a superb piece of fielding.

“Finally a mis-hit, could this be a moment?” Ian Smith said in commentary as the ball was in the air.

“One of the greatest catches under pressure you will ever see. My goodness gracious. Is that a matchturner? Australia might believe so. Sensational.”

“It’s never easy running back over your shoulder, particularly when it’s Rohit Sharma. He’s made great ground here,” Shane Watson added.

“That is a wonderful catch.”

“That’s great courage in the field from Travis Head,” said Matthew Hayden.

India were coasting at the time of Head’s catch, and not long after Sharma’s dismissal, Australia collected another wicket with Shreyas Iyer walking back to the sheds for just four.

“The turning point for me was Travis Head’s catch. Rohit Sharma was seeing them beautifully and threatening to take the game away from Australia,” Brad Haddin noted during the innings break.
