Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin confirmed on Thursday that one of the team’s players had tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Zoom press conference, he noted that the player, whose identity has not been released, had contracted one of the COVID-19 variants .
Bergevin says that player is feeling OK so far, and that no protocols were breached: “No one did anything wrong, in my view.”
The GM also revealed he had experienced two false positive tests this season and quarantined for 48 hours both times.
Bergevin did not disclose whether any of the team’s non-playing staff had tested positive.
On Monday, the Canadiens’ game against the Edmonton Oilers was postponed after Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia were placed on the NHL’s COVID Protocol Related Absences list.
Subsequently, the team’s games were postponed through Sunday because of COVID-19 protocols. The Habs had been due to play the Oilers on Wednesday and Friday and the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
All seven teams in the North Division will have schedules adjusted. At least one game will be remade after regular season, which was supposed to end on May 8.
