Olivia Rodrigo may be one of the hottest young musicians of the modern day – but when it came to choosing her look for the 2024 Grammys, the 20-year-old singer looked back to the past for some style inspiration from none other than supermodel icon Linda Evangelista.

The singing superstar – who starred in Disney’s High School Musical series before hitting the big time on TikTok – donned a beautiful beaded white gown that was first modeled by Linda, now 58, on the Versace runway 30 years ago.

Olivia put her own twist on the gown, which featured double straps over each shoulder, red beading across the bodice and down the skirt, and an intricate beaded hem.

While Linda went full Versace glam when she wore the same design during the brand’s Spring 1995 runway show – sporting a metallic lip, dramatic eyeliner, and a voluminous blonde ‘do, Olivia brought a more modern edge to the look on the Grammys red carpet.

Olivia Rodrigo is one of the hottest modern music stars – but at this year’s Grammy Awards, she took style inspiration from a 90s icon, Linda Evangelista

The 20-year-old wore a vintage Versace gown that was first modeled on the runway by Linda during the brand’s Spring 1995 catwalk show

At the time Linda, now 58, was at the height of her fashion fame – while Olivia had not even been born

Opting to stick to her trademark brunette locks rather than copying Linda’s blonde, the singer wore her tresses in loose waves that were swept over one shoulder, while she chose a more muted makeup look, save for the bold red lip that matched the beading on the dress.

The beads themselves were also given an update, with the designers at Versace appearing to reduce the number and the size of the embellishments for the dress’s latest outing.

Similarly, the hemline was extended for Olivia, whose dress swept to the bottom of her feet, while Linda’s version had been tailored to hit mid-calf.

But despite the alterations, the iconic dress was unmistakable when the music star stepped out onto the red carpet, three decades after the gown was first shown on the runway – two years before designer Gianni Versace was assassinated.

While Olivia was not born at the time, Linda was at the height of her fashion fame when she donned the design on the runway.

In the years since, the model’s career has been something of a rollercoaster, with the fashion icon all but disappearing from the spotlight when she underwent a cosmetic procedure in 2016 that left her ‘brutally disfigured’.

The treatment in question – known as CoolSculpting – saw Linda undergoing several sessions which were meant to freeze away fat from her jawline, thighs, stomach, and back.

But instead, the procedure went horribly wrong, and instead thickened her fat into what Linda described as ‘hard, numb bulges that rounds of liposuction and weeks in full-body compression garments could not remedy’.

Olivia put her own modern twist on the garment, which appeared to have had updates to the beading, while also getting a hemline extension to make it floor-length

When Linda first wore the design, the hemline hit at mid-calf – and unlike Olivia, she sported a voluminous blonde ‘do when she wore the dress

Linda (seen in 2022) all but disappeared from the spotlight after undergoing a botched cosmetic procedure in 2016 that left her ‘brutally disfigured’

The model has since spoken out against the procedure, which has greatly affected her physique and her confidence in the past few years.

Linda spent six years ‘in hiding’ after her rare reaction, and previously told Vogue she was ‘so depressed’ that she ‘hated’ herself after being left ‘permanently deformed’ and ‘brutally disfigured.’

However, after undergoing several corrective procedures and getting back into therapy, Linda began a career resurgence in 2022, when she returned to the catwalk and got back in front of the camera.

Meanwhile, Olivia’s music career has gone from strength to strength in the past few years after she burst onto the industry scene in 2020 when her debut hit Drivers License became a viral sensation on TikTok, helping to launch the singer to stardom.

Prior to that, the singer had made a name for herself on the small screen, starring in a few Disney Channel hits, including Bizaardvark and then High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Since making the move into music, Olivia has earned herself a staggering three Grammy wins and is nominated for six more at this year’s ceremony.
