Make way for Olivia Rodrigo.
The 20-year-old pop sensation is gearing up for the release of her anticipated sophomore album, Guts, and Harper’s Bazaar can exclusively reveal she will return to the stage of the 2023 Video Music Awards to mark the occasion. She joins pop peers such as Karol G, Anitta, Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, and others who are set to perform at the VMAs at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on September 12.
The “Bad Idea Right?” singer first performed at the VMAs in 2021 following the viral success of her debut album, Sour, and blew away viewers with a high-energy performance of her Billboard Hot 100 no. 1 single “Good 4 U.” She also took home three Moon Person trophies that same year—for Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Push Performance of the Year. She’s a six-time nominee again this year, including a coveted nomination in the Video of the Year category.

In an interview last month with The New York Times, Rodrigo revealed that Guts is a more rock-centric record than her debut album.
“I’ve always loved rock music, and always wanted to find a way that I could make it feel like me, and make it feel feminine,” she told the publication, “and still telling a story and having something to say that’s vulnerable and intimate.”
The 2023 VMAs will air live on Tuesday, September 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET on MTV, and will also be available to stream on MTV.com, Paramount+, and Hulu Live TV.
