Tyson Fury reveals what he’s offered Anthony Joshua

Oleksandr Usyk’s manager has claimed the Ukrainian is willing to take on Deontay Wilder if he is unable to land a unification showdown with Tyson Fury. Usyk is eyeing up a return to the ring in early 2023 as he continues to recover from injuries suffered before his rematch with Anthony Joshua, and has his sights set on the unbeaten Fury. But Wilder could step in, providing he gets through his upcoming bout with Robert Helenius.

Usyk and Fury are both hoping to become the first undisputed heavyweight champions of the four-belt era, with the Brit currently holding the WBC belt. Fury remains in talks over a British showdown with Anthony Joshua in December although an agreement is yet to be reached between the two parties.

And if Fury is unable to fight early next year, Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas claims Wilder has emerged as a possible alternative. The American will return to the ring later this month against Helenius, his first fight since back-to-back defeats to Fury.

Klimas told talkSPORT: “It is a very possible fight. Usyk called and said, ‘if Fury’s not available and we cannot fight Fury, I would like to fight Deontay Wilder’. So, I asked him why and he said, ‘because he’s a risky fighter and I like that’.”

Usyk is back in Ukraine spending time with his family and supporting the troops in their battle against the Russian invasion. Klimas is certain he will be back in the ring in 2023 and a unification bout with Fury is firmly on his radar.

“I’m hearing [Fury] wants to fight on December 3, which we don’t have a big problem with,” he added. “But, on the other side, it’s boxing and things happen, breaking hands, breaking legs and stuff like that, so it’s hard to predict, but fingers crossed we are going to be ready.”

Saudi Arabia has again been mooted as a possible destination for the heavyweight showdown, after Usyk continued his unbeaten professional career there with an impressive victory over Joshua in August.

He has now beaten three British fighters in Joshua, Derek Chisora and Tony Bellew and is confident of adding Tyson Fury’s name to the list. Klimas added: “From our side, we are going to be ready 100 per cent, so if the fight does not happen, don’t blame our team.”
