Oilers Star Evander Kane Suffers Horrifying Injury After Being Sliced By Skate, Immediately Rushed To Hospital (VIDEO)

Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane suffered a gruesome wrist injury during the team’s Tuesday evening road game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In the second period of play, Kane and Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers got tangled up when fighting for a puck. The Edmonton forward well to the ground, and the skate of Lightning forward Patrick Maroon accidentally cut across Kane’s exposed wrist.

The Oilers provided a positive update on Kane’s status soon after: The 31-year-old is in stable condition and will undergo surgery at hospital later tonight.

After suffering a wrist injury early in the second period, Evander Kane is stable and has been transported to hospital for a procedure later this evening.

Per Sportsnet’s Gene Principe, Oilers general manager Ken Holland added that Kane suffered a deep cut on the wrist, and that he’s going to be alright.

Kane played 7:53 for the Oilers on Tuesday. He recorded one shot on goal and a hit, and the Oilers held on for a tight 3-2 victory over the defending Eastern Conference champions. Leon Draisaitl’s power play goal in the second period held up as the game winner for the visitors.

The 2009 first-round draft pick has five goals and eight assists for the Oilers this season. Tuesday’s victory over Tampa Bay moved Edmonton to 8-6-0 on the year as they snapped a three-game losing streak.

Kane and the Oilers reached the Western Conference Final last season, but they were swept by the Colorado Avalanche, who went on to win the Stanley Cup over Tampa Bay. The Oilers gave Kane a four-year contract extension worth $20.5 million in the offseason.

Kane, in his 14th NHL season, has 291 career goals and 558 points in 826 NHL games. He has hit the 20-goal mark eight times in his career.

Edmonton will have Wednesday off before resuming action against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. They’ll conclude a four-game eastern road trip against the defending Presidents’ Trophy winners, the Florida Panthers, on Saturday.
