Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson could return to the field for the first time in three weeks.

Head coach Ryan Day told ESPN’s Pete Thamel that Henderson will be a game-time decision for Saturday’s game against Penn State.

The official injury report sent out by Ohio State lists the junior running back as out with an undisclosed injury for the marquee showdown between the undefeated Big Ten rivals.

In addition to Henderson, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman noted wide receiver Emeka Egbuka will also be a game-time decision.

Henderson hasn’t played since Sept. 23 against Notre Dame. He ran for a season-high 104 yards and scored a touchdown in Ohio State’s 17-14 win in South Bend.

The Buckeyes have cited an undisclosed injury that has kept Henderson out. Their rushing attack has looked sluggish without their lead back. They managed just 62 yards on 33 carries in a 37-17 win over Maryland.

Last week against Purdue saw the ground game rebound a bit with 152 yards on 39 attempts, but the average of 3.9 yards per carry didn’t inspire a lot of confidence that things had been fixed.

Henderson is averaging 6.7 yards per carry with five touchdowns on 44 attempts in four games this season. This is the second straight season injuries have kept him out of the lineup for multiple games. He missed five games last year due to a foot injury that required surgery.

If Henderson is unable to play, Chip Trayanum will likely receive the bulk of the carries for the Buckeyes offense.

No. 3 Ohio State (6-0) is hosting No. 7 Penn State (6-0) on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. This is the first time since 2019 that both teams have been ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll at the time of their matchup.

The Buckeyes have won six consecutive games in the rivalry dating back to 2017. Penn State hasn’t won in Columbus since the 2011 season.
