Ohio State vs. Michigan preview
We’ve known since just about the very beginning of the season that the biggest game of the year would be on Nov. 25 between Ohio State and Michigan.
The Buckeyes and Wolverines are ranked as two of the top 3 teams in the country entering this game and one could argue that no matter who wins or loses, both should get a spot in the College Football Playoff.
But with the way the season has played out thus far, we could very well see the loser of The Game being knocked out of championship contention.
Ohio State vs. Michigan picks: Michigan ML (-162 or better)
For us, this game comes down to two things: home-field advantage and who’s got the biggest chip on their shoulders entering the game. Both of those are in Michigan’s favor this time around.
This year’s installment is at the Big House and will feature a raucous Wolverine crowd for the matchup. Sure, each team has won on the other’s home field before, but it’s always beneficial to play in front of your home fans.
The biggest play, however, is the chip. Michigan probably has the biggest one in the nation right now after the sign-stealing scandal they’ve been dealing with during the second half of the season.
That chip has also knocked out head coach Jim Harbaugh from being on the sidelines for the game. The Wolverines not only want to prove they can still win without him physically there, but more importantly, they want to make sure he gets to be back on the field again for the CFP by winning this game.
Ohio State has also shown larger chinks in their armor this season than Michigan – namely against Notre Dame, Penn State and Rutgers. The Wolverines’ only real struggle came last week against Maryland – a look-ahead game that saw them take their foot off the gas after going up 23-3 in the first half.
With such a small number of 3.5, you could take the spread here. But losing your bet on a game-winning field goal would be a tough one to swallow.
Ohio State vs. Michigan props: Under 46.5 (-110 or better)
When Ohio State and Michigan have played tough opponents this season, they’ve been low-scoring affairs. No game will be tougher than this one Saturday.
The Buckeye offense hasn’t been all that scary compared to their defense, while the Wolverines have slowed things down heavily by focusing more on the run.
This one should be a defensive battle with lots of action coming on the ground rather than the air – chewing up that clock and handing us an Under to cash.
