CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio polls have officially closed at 7:30 p.m., but anyone in line by that cut-off will be allowed to vote.

The absentee ballot drop-off at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is now closed, though. And the board plans to begin posting early voting results about 8 p.m.

With voter turn-out reaching higher than 80% in some cities, many polling places have seen hours-long waits all day with lines that stretch through parking lots.

At Maple Leaf Elementary School in Garfield Heights, long lines lasted all day.

Gina Telman, who got off work at a nursing home at 7 p.m., just made the deadline. She said she’s voted in every presidential election since 1980. And she was the last person in line.

“I’m a Nov. 3 kind of gal,” said Telman, who enjoys the atmosphere of voting in person. She expected to wait an hour or less.

Ohio is in position to break its all-time record for votes cast for the Nov. 3 presidential election, Secretary of State Frank LaRose said.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has minute-by-minute updates of voter turnout, including early and absentee votes, in every city.
