CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Monday morning commute could be a slow, hazardous experience for Northeast Ohio drivers as a winter storm is expected to dump up to 3 inches of snow overnight, with higher amounts possible in other areas.

Forecasts from the National Weather Service show heavy snow should fall throughout the early-morning hours in both the Akron and Cleveland areas. Snow showers will continue throughout the day, but only about another inch is expected by Monday evening.

However, parts of Medina and Summit counties might see up to 6 inches of snow, and parts of Western and Central Ohio could see even higher amounts, according to forecasts.

Temperatures won’t be exceedingly cold as highs will reach the low 30s in Cleveland and the mid-30s in Akron. Wind gusts will approach 30 mph in Cleveland during the day and overnight. Winds will only be about 8 to 10 mph in Akron during the day, but gusts will reach about 21 mph overnight. Temps will be in the mid-20s overnight in Cleveland and the low 20s in Akron.

There are slight chances of snow showers Tuesday but no significant accumulation is expected. Look for highs in the upper 20s and winds around 11 to 15 mph. Temps again will drop to the low 20s overnight mostly cloudy skies.

Wednesday will remain chilly, with highs in the upper 20s, but there is a chance for partly sunny skies. It will be very chilly overnight as temps drop to about 18 degrees in Cleveland and 14 in Akron.

Highs will reach the mid-30s on Thursday, bringing a chance of both rain and snow showers during the afternoon. Rain and snow showers are likely overnight in Cleveland, and snow showers are possible in Akron. Lows will be around 30 degrees.

Friday’s forecast is a near repeat of Thursday as highs will be in the mid-30s. It will be cloudy over the weekend as highs will be in the low 30s and upper 20s, with a chance of snow showers on Sunday.
