Officials report 108 new Ohio residents dead with coronavirus; 45% of Ohio has started vaccines: Friday update

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another 108 Ohioans have died with COVID-19, pushing the state’s death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 19,861 on Friday.

And 660 new coronavirus cases have been reported, bringing total cases to just over 1.1 million.

Ohio’s death tally comes twice a week from the federal government. The case numbers are tracked daily by the Ohio Department of Health.

Another 19,887 first doses of vaccine were recorded between Thursday and Friday mornings. This brings the total vaccines started to 5.26 million, or 45.07% of the state’s total population.

The Ohio Hospital Association said 713 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus, a net decrease of 34 from Thursday, when considering admissions and discharges.

On Monday, the Ohio Department of Health will not report new cases, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Monday’s cases will be added on Tuesday to the Department of Health’s coronavirus dashboard.
