NY couple celebrates 70th Valentine’s Day after beating COVID
Happy 70th #Happy70th
Sometimes nothing can get in the way of love — not even COVID-19.
This year, coronavirus might have caused a scare but it didn’t stop a longtime senior couple from celebrating their 70th Valentine’s Day together.
Staff at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell, a 236-bed skilled nursing facility in Valatie, NY, made sure residents Bob and Emily Smith didn’t miss out on the holiday after the couple both survived COVID earlier in the year.
The couple, who are originally from Schenectady, NY, have been married since May 1951. They have two children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Their family described the pair as always providing a home full of love.
Their love for one another is what pushed staff members to ensure the couple had an amazing celebration. They helped Bob organize a dozen roses, chocolates, a teddy bear and balloons for Emily.
Bob said the secret to having a successful marriage is to “just love each other every single day and it will all work out.
“Then, you will have a happy life,” he added.
Take it from a couple of experts.
