Nutella confirms correct pronunciation of it’s name on Pancake Day – and you’ve probably been saying it wrong

Nutella #Nutella

It’s officially Pancake Day, which means kitchens across the nation will be covered in batter while bins will be filled with failed first attempts.

But when the flipping has been perfected and the portions are stacked high, conversations will quickly turn to toppings.

While many love a sprinkle of simple sugar and a squeeze of lemon, others prefer something much sweeter, like Nutella.

The famous jar of hazelnut spread has become somewhat of a staple and is never more popular than on Shrove Tuesday.

However popular, Nutella recently revealed that 88% of Brits mispronounce the iconic brand. Of those 78% are saying NUT-ella.

Only 12% of those polled pronounced it the correct way – NOU-tella.

While 6% thought NEW-tell-uh was the correct pronunciation, 3% said they just didn’t know how to say it.

To put an end to pronunciation debates in households on Pancake Day, Nutella has decided to help clear things up once and for all.

They have confirmed the emphasis should actually be put on the N and OU – and the correct pronunciation is NOU- tella.

Marketing Director for Nutella, Ferrero UK & Ireland, James Stewart, said: “As Nutella is enjoyed in every corner of the world, there has long been some fun debates on how it should be pronounced.
