NRL 2020: David Klemmer fight, Canberra Raiders v Newcastle Knights, Round 4, result, highlights, punches, score, ladder
Klemmer #Klemmer
Bradman Best capped off a wonderful performance from Newcastle and himself personally with a try in the final play of the game, but it’s what followed afterwards which may have piqued the interest of the NRL more.
Best went through under the posts after a loose pass from George Williams failed to reach its target, leaving the centre to gather his own instinctive kick for his second try of the game.
As the Knights celebrated finally killing off any hint of the unlikeliest of comebacks, the Raiders seemed to take exception to something – or someone.

A couple of the Raiders players confronted David Klemmer, who reacted with a smile, before Joe Tapine appeared to throw a punch at the Knights prop, prompting an all-in scrum of players with just 30 seconds remaining on the clock.
“Did you see what I saw Michael? Did he throw a right then a left as well at Klemmer, who has kept his fists down?” Fox League commentator Andrew Voss asked Michael Ennis, who was on co-comms.
“Why on Earth would it escalate to that extent?!”
Footage showed Klemmer did also have a clenched fist a one point in the melee as more and more players entered the fray.
Replays showed it was Klemmer who’s hard hit on Williams caused his pass to go astray, giving Best the chance to capitalise and it was clear the Raiders were not too happy about the manner of the hit as frustrations boiled over and words were traded.
The referee took no further action than telling the Knights to remove themselves from the area and ready themselves for the conversion but Tapine and whoever else was involved could well find themselves at the mercy of the match review committee on Monday.
