Stephanie Martinez, who owns the Pleasanton Road shop with her brother Jesus, says they also saw the buzzworthy videos of the pickle being wrapped in a Fruit Roll-Up then dipped in chamoy and Lucas and said they “immediately” knew they had to add it to the menu.
“We knew people were waiting to have it in San Antonio,” she said, adding that they stocked up in supplies ahead of the release on Saturday.
Her intuition was right.
“People were lining up for it,” she added. “People were calling all day.”
Martinez admitted she didn’t originally think the treat would taste good.
“But once you taste it, you know it’s something that’s going to go viral,” she said.
The brother-sister duo add extra treats when they plate the pickle enchilado. Martinez says it comes with Hot Cheetos and a Nerd rope, which is also served with chamoy and Lucas.
El Chango Loco is located at 2802 Pleasanton Road.
