Here is the latest news from this past week from Notre Dame football recruiting
With the dead period ending in a couple of days, the recruiting world is about to get even busier. We will be entering a quiet period, which means that student athletes will be able to take on campus visits freely.
We have already seen a flurry of talented 2024 and 2025 recruits finalize visits to Notre Dame, with even more to come. While it was a quieter week when it comes to offers being extended, there was plenty of action on the recruiting front.
From new top ten lists being announced, to visits being finalized, there is still plenty to talk about. Let’s take a look at the recruiting week in review for Notre Dame.
LATEST RECRUITING NEWS
Let’s take a look at some of the most important recruiting news for Notre Dame from this past week.
One of the biggest pieces of recruiting news this past week was that top 2024 Hicksville (N.Y.) Holy Trinity Diocesan athlete Josiah Brown announced his updated top ten schools, which included the Irish. After originally recruiting Brown at the safety position, the Irish staff is now targeting him on the offensive side of the football at wide receiver.
Brown boasts impressive speed and playmaking ability. Notre Dame has made a great impression on the New York native thus far.
2024 Swainsboro (Ga.) High School standout athlete Demello Jones also put out a top ten list that included Notre Dame. His top schools was flooded with SEC powers, putting the Irish in some vaunted company.
Jones is the nephew of former Notre Dame safety Deek Cooper. Getting the Georgia native on campus this spring will be massive.
I had the chance to dig deep into the recruiting board for Notre Dame and break down where they could have a big impact in the state of Texas in the 2024 class. The Irish staff was able to land commitments from four different Lone Star standouts in 2023, which was more than the staff has landed in the previous five classes combined (three).
Texas is an area where the staff must have success. They are fully aware.
From there, I also wanted to take a deeper dive into a couple position groups that could be changing from a strategy perspective. One was the offensive line, which must now figure out life after Harry Hiestand.
The other is the rover position, which is more a change when considering what type of players that Notre Dame could be targeting. The top targets haven’t necessarily change, but it is more a glimpse into why certain players may be at the top of the Irish list.
On Saturday, the Irish Breakdown staff also became aware that 2024 Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie cornerback Marcellus Barnes has solidified a visit in March. While he does not currently hold an offer from the Irish, he is a player that the staff is keeping a close eye on.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise if an offer is extended to the Tennessee native in the future.
RECENT PROSPECT INTERVIEWS
After Brown made his top ten schools announcement, he was kind enough to take some time and explain why Notre Dame was a part of the list. For the New York standout, that relationship has been built off of authenticity and deep relationships.
I also had the chance to sit down with 2024 Seven (Md.) Archbishop Spalding linebacker Keyshawn Flowers after he was offered by the Irish. He is a player to keep a close eye on moving forward.
NEW OFFERS
It was a quiet week on the offer front. Here was the lone scholarship offer that was extended by the Notre Dame staff.
