KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

For the first time since opening 12 years ago, Kansas City’s Power and Light District will not be holding a New Year’s Eve celebration in the KC Live! venue.

“We are here for Kansas City and we want to do what is best for Kansas City and that is being safe and being socially responsible and it’s better to be safe than sorry the holiday season for this New Year’s Eve,” said Rachel Waller, director of marketing for the Power & Light District.

There are still some opportunities to celebrate. The restaurants there will be open and each will have its own New Year’s Eve specials. But there will be no ball drop this year and KC Live! will close at 10 p.m.
