Niners rule out WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) for Sunday’s game vs. Rams

Deebo Samuel’s hamstring is going to keep him from going for a season sweep over the Rams.
The 49ers receiver will not play in Sunday’s game against Los Angeles, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Friday.
“It’s not a precaution. He’s not good enough to go,” Shanahan said. “The fact that he even had a chance means hopefully he’ll be good with a week off and ready for the next game.”
Samuel caught five passes for 42 yards in San Francisco’s 44-23 loss to Kansas City, the 49ers’ first game following the club’s acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey. Thanks to McCaffrey, the 49ers won’t be short on options in the backfield, where Samuel has proven to be a dynamic threat since the middle of the 2021 season.
They will, however, need to rely more on Brandon Aiyuk, who is quietly putting together a quality season and looks to be one of San Francisco’s most-improved offensive playmakers.
San Francisco (3-4) defeated Los Angeles (3-3) in its first meeting, 24-9, thanks to a strong defensive showing headlined by seven sacks of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who turned the ball over twice in the loss. The 49ers will hope for a similar showing in their rematch Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
