Nigerians reject NIPOST’s new charges on courier services

A document showing NIPOST’s new rate for acquisition of licences for logistics and courier firms surfaced on Twitter on Friday, July 24, 2020.
It was also reported that law enforcement personnel have started seizing dispatch bikes of companies yet to comply with the new, steep rates.
However, since the postal agency released the new charges, Nigerians have taken to social media to reject the rates as many argued that the rate will force owners of Small and Medium Enterprises out of business and render many unemployed.
Many have also called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila to look into the development, even though the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami had asked NIPOST to put the implementation of the new fees on hold.
Citing Section 45 of the Nigeria Postal Services Act, Akin Alabi, Nigerian Lawmaker Representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, has urged Patami to ensure the new fees do not see the light of day.
