Nicola Sturgeon announces Ayrshire pubs will close for new lockdown

Ayrshire pubs and bars are being ordered to close from Friday at 6pm, the First Minister has announced today.

As part of the new tough lockdown rules revealed by Nicola Sturgeon this afternoon, restaurants also won’t be able to sell alcohol.

Boozers – indoors and outdoors – will be forced to close their doors for 16 days until October 25.

Ms Sturgeon announced the rules will be in place for central belt regions – Ayrshire and Arran, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Lothain and Forth Valley.

The Scottish Government announced the new measures as cases across Scotland soared to record levels in the past 24 hours.

Across Ayrshire a record daily increase of positive tests was revealed this afternoon also.

The First Minister also told Ayrshire residents to avoid public transport unless necessary and to avoid travelling outwith their area.

Pubs and restaurants elsewhere in Scotland can stay open but must close by 6pm.

Cafes and restaurants without an alcohol license will be allowed to stay open until 6pm across the country.
