One of the plays of the NFL season was nullified yesterday thanks to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who was lined up offside prior to the snap.

Had the play been allowed to stand, the Chiefs would have taken a 23-20 lead over the Buffalo Bills with about 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The call had Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes quite heated, as he was seen yelling at teammates and officials on the sidelines after the play. He then brought up the call to Josh Allen as they were shaking hands after the game.

Bizarrely, though, two of CBS Sports’ NFL reporters have deleted tweets confirming that Toney checked with a ref to see whether he was offside or not.

“For what it’s worth — I can confirm that Kadarius Toney looked to the sideline and pointed (as he lined up). I cannot comment whether the official acknowledged or signaled him to move back,” Josh Cohen reported.

Tracy Wolfson then corroborated Cohen’s report. However, both tweets have now been deleted.

While the deleting of the tweets isn’t inherently conspiratorial, it’s not an ideal look from Josh Cohen and Tracy Wolfson, who, at the very least, have retracted their statement about Toney.

After starting the season with a 6-1 record, the Chiefs have gone 2-4 over their last six games, putting their record at 8-5.

While the Chiefs are still leading the AFC West by one game, they now trail both the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins for the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

This is particularly significant when it comes to Kansas City, as Mahomes has never had to play a road playoff game in his career so far.

The Chiefs do have a relatively easy schedule down the stretch, as they’ll be facing off against the New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, and Los Angeles Chargers to close out their 2023 season.
