As it turns out, Drew Pearson is more than a Hall of Fame wide receiver and Super Bowl champion. The Cowboys legend is also the world’s greatest hype man.
Pearson announced the No. 44 overall pick with gusto, entertaining the crowd with a full-blown wrestling promo before revealing whom the Cowboys had selected.
“The Cleveland Browns were one of my favorite franchises and favorite teams I supported,” Pearson said. “HOWEVER, on behalf of the five-team world champion Dallas Cowboys, Hall of Fame owner Jerry Jones, Ms. Gene Jones and the Jones family, head coach Mike McCarthy, all those players who played before me, with me, and after me, and of course, Cowboys nation, the Dallas Cowboys select … defensive back from Kentucky, Kelvin Joseph!”
It was perfect mic work from Pearson, who lured the Cleveland crowd in for a cheap pop, before turning heel and lauding the villainous Cowboys.
His Hall of Fame induction speech this summer should be epic.
Earlier in the night, the Isley Brothers announced Miami’s second round pick in slightly more disorganized fashion.
Welcome to Night 2 of the NFL Draft: some of the players may be forgotten, but their announcement selections will live forever.
