Bill Belichick is wasting zero time in free agency this year.
In the past, the New England Patriots head coach has allowed the top-tier free agent talent to get signed as he waited for the dust to settle. This year, Belichick made sure to re-sign Cam Newton to solidify the quarterback position and he quickly agreed to terms with two talented players early on Monday.
The Patriots reportedly will sign tight end Jonnu Smith to a four-year, $50 million deal. New England also is set to sign defensive tackle Davon Godchaux to a two-year, $16 million deal. It also helps to have the third-most cap space in pursuit of signing free agents.
