NFL analyst keeps hating on Eagles’ Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts is playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

It’s a big accomplishment for the 24-year-old Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, but Chris Simms isn’t so impressed.

In this clip posted by NBC Sports’ John Clark, Simms explains that he thinks teams “have to worry about so many other things to play Philadelphia.”

“But … how would I put this … playing quarterback for the Eagles right now is set up to be one of the easier quarterback jobs in the sport.”

Simms, the son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, hasn’t been the biggest fan of Hurts and has already slighted him this season. Before the Eagles’ Divisional Playoff game against the New York Giants, Simms indicated he preferred Daniel Jones over Hurts.

“I mean he can do some of the things that Jalen Hurts [can]. Yeah, maybe not as good a runner, but we know he’s really close. It’s not like, ‘Oh, whoa… way better,’” he said. “Again, if you’re gonna ask me who I’d rather have as a passer, I’d rather have Daniel Jones. I’m sorry about that. You’re gonna get me in trouble today.”

But he later ate his words on PFT Live:

“Hey, I was wrong … yeah, I questioned how good he was. Crap, he’s definitely a top 10 quarterback in football [with] what he’s doing. He’s one of the greatest leaders in the sport,” Simms continued. “You could tell right there [in his postgame press conference], he doesn’t even seem happy that he won the NFC Championship Game. He seems like he’s still chippy and like ‘I’m gonna prove you wrong still more.’ I love that about him. I do.”

In 2021, Simms left Hurts off his list of the top 40 quarterbacks in the NFL.

“There’s just nothing that I ever saw that led me to think he’s an NFL starting quarterback. And, listen, I hope he proves me wrong. And if he proves me wrong, I’ll be on here to go, ‘Way to go, Jalen Hurts, you made Chris Simms look like a dumb idiot, way to go.’ I hope that’s the case, I do.”

He later apologized for the oversight.

“I’m rooting for Jalen Hurts. I know everyone thinks since I didn’t make him in my Top 40 – yeah, it looks like I’m wrong right now. And I’m going down on Philly sports radio and saying, ‘Yeah, I messed that one up.’ He looked really good.”

Hurts, an NFL MVP finalist, has led the Eagles into Super Bowl LVII, where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
