Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed a new Sacramento Superior Court judge.
The appointment of Jeffrey Galvin, 56, of Sacramento County, was one of 17 Superior Court appointments across California by the governor on Friday.
Galvin served as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission from 1994 to 1998 and as a clerk at the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, from 1993 to 1994.
Galvin most recently worked as a litigation partner at Downey Brand, a position he has held since 2001, according to a news release from Newsom’s office. There, he has performed the roles of assistant general counsel and pro bono coordinator and handled cases across Northern California and Nevada, according to the organization’s website.
He earned his law degree from UCLA’s School of Law, Newsom’s office said.
Newsom’s office said Galvin, who is a registered Democrat, fills a vacancy left by Judge Geoffrey Goodman, who retired last year.
