Newcastle United 0-0 1860 Munich first half player ratings as Lascelles booked and Nick Pope impresses
Lascelles #Lascelles
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe looked carefully at two sides against 1860 Munich after his opening line-up were held in the first half in Austria.
The Magpies had grabbed the lead in the second half with 10 of the original line-up still on the pitch as Joe Willock broke the deadlock on 55 minutes. But with just over an hour gone Howe ordered 10 replacements and it didn’t take long for two of them to link up and cause further damage.
There were 63 minutes gone when Brazil star Bruno Guimaraes rolled the ball to Sean Longstaff who took a touch and rattled a shot beyond the keeper for his second goal of pre-season.
MATCH REPORT: Bruno and Botman arrivals make key difference in win
First-half player ratings
Nick Pope 8
Made some important blocks as 1860 created a series of chances. Had Newcastle fans chanting “England number 1” after tipping away Kobylanski’s dangerous free-kick.
Emil Krafth 7
A couple of good runs forward and a decent cross for Saint-Maximin late in the opening period.
Jamaal Lascelles 6
Was caught in possession a couple of times and picked up a yellow card in tough half.
Dan Burn 7
A steady enough performance from the big centre-back. Couldn’t get on the end of any corners.
Matt Targett 7
Some important early interventions from the £15million man from Aston Villa.
Jacob Murphy 6
Some decent plays overall. Picked out Shelvey with quick thinking from a free-kick.
Joe Willock 6
Recovered from a collision after Stefan Lex tangled with him in first half. Didn’t get on the end of anything.
Jonjo Shelvey 7
Trying to pick holes in German side’s defence. A solid work out.
Elliot Anderson 7
Lively enough and has linked up well with Saint-Maximin. A decent audition in front of Eddie Howe.
Allan Saint-Maximin 6
At least forced the keeper into a save with a back post header. Some decent play down the left but not at his best.
Callum Wilson 6
Full of running but hasn’t really had a clear-cut chance. At least has 45 minutes in the tank.]
Second-half player ratings
Martin Dubravka 7
Didn’t have a great deal to do compared to Pope in first half. But dealt well with a few bits and bobs.
Kieran Trippier 7
Never looked flustered as he controlled the right-hand side with ease.
Fabian Schar 7
An assured display as he combined well with Botman for most of the second half. Looks like a guaranteed starter for Premier League campaign.
Sven Botman 8
Strolled through the whole of the second half really. A strong presence at the back with a great range of passing. Looks like a very cool customer.
Paul Dummett 7
An important 45 minutes of fitness for the ex-Wales man.
Joelinton 7
Slotted back into midfield role. Was perhaps lucky to stay on after wild challenge though and could have been different in a league match.
Bruno Guimaraes 9
Oozed quality with an assist and a goal. Not bad for a 29 minute run out.
Sean Longstaff 8
This a big pre-season for Longstaff. And he’s taking it with both hands. Another goal in a bright display.
Ryan Fraser 7
Some good runs forward and almost got in on the goalscoring act.
Chris Wood 7
Offered some presence and weighed in with an assist.
Miguel Almiron 6
Wasteful in the final third.
