Newcastle expect competition from Tottenham for James Maddison | OneFootball

The Magpies tried to sign the England international last summer but failed to land him. They did not want to break Financial Fair Play rules.

However, the Foxes are open to a sale and will likely demand around £60 million for Maddison.

The creative attacking midfielder has been one of the bright spots in a poor campaign for Leicester, bagging ten goals and nine assists in 27 appearances.

They are 18th in the Premier League and face the prospect of relegation, while Newcastle are set to be playing in Europe next season.

They are currently on track to qualify for the Champions League, which makes them an attractive proposition for Maddison and other potential targets.

They face competition from Spurs, but the Saudi-backed club has significantly more funds to play with which will give them an edge.

Newcastle will also try to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer, as he could be surplus to requirements under incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Gallagher has started 15 Premier League matches this season and came off the bench in another 17. He has two years left on his deal and may be heading for the exit door.

A move for Gallagher will be a more straightforward transfer, with the midfielder open to leaving and Chelsea looking to sell.

Newcastle have been keeping tabs on RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai as another midfield option.
