Newcastle have made an approach for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke but the Cherries have rejected the enquiry, unwilling to sell their star man this month.

The 26-year-old has been in fabulous form this season, scoring 12 goals in just 19 Premier League appearanaces and 13 in 20 across all competitions.

He starred in the Championship for Bournemouth but only scored six league goals over the last campaign in the top flight. However, he has clearly found his feet under Andoni Iraola and is attracting the attention of bigger clubs.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle have made an enquiry over Solanke’s availability this month, but the approach has been turned down by the south coast club.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe signed Solanke when he was Bournemouth manager, paying Liverpool £19m for his services in January 2019 and remains a big fan of the England international.

Newcastle have been struggling with a long list of injuries this season and Howe is keen to add to his attack for the second half of the season, with a new striker competing with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

However, it will not be Solanke this month unless Bournemouth change their stance, which is that he is firmly not for sale at this time.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward only signed a new contract with the Cherries in September, tying him to the club until 2027 so there is no pressure on Bournemouth to sell, and if they chose to then they could ask for a huge transfer fee.

They are not interested in doing that in the coming days and weeks, though, with Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving Iraola with only Kieffer Moore as another available option up front.

Bournemouth have been in fine form, winning four of their last five Premier League matches and losing just one of their last nine in all competitions.

They are back in action at home against Liverpool on 21 January in the Premier League.
