Forest Green 1-0 Morecambe: There are certain things that you forget in life: keys, partner’s name, what you got in your GCSEs. Something else that was not inside my brain was the fact Connor Wickham plays for Forest Green and is scoring goals.

Barcelona 0-0 Elche: RED CARD! The visitors defence really is pretty awful. Verdu decides to pull down Lewandowski when through on goal. The referee has no choice and Elche are down to 10 men. This will be a long afternoon for them.

Burnley 1-1 Bristol City: A corner lands inside the six-yard box and Wells pounces to score against his former club.

Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth: Trippier lines up a free-kick from distance … it hits the outside of the post and bounces wide. The goalkeeper had no chance if it was a few inches inside.

Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth: Targett swings in a free-kick to the back post where Schar is waiting but his header is pretty weak and causes no issues. Newcastle are having the better of the match, that’s for sure.

Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth: Admirably, in its way.

Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth: Zemura sends a cross into the box, Pope looks to come and gets nowhere near the ball, it reaches Tavernier but he loops his header over the empty net.

Norwich 0-1 West Brom: O’Shea was allowed an acre of space to head home a free-kick from close range. Dean Smith will be fuming about that marking (or lack of it).

Oldham 1-0 Eastleigh: Luke Burgess has opened the scoring in what will be John Sheridan’s final game in charge. They announced in midweek that the manager will leave the club as they look to refresh following their relegation to the National League. Will he finish with a win?

Burnley 1-0 Bristol City: Benson pings one home to get Vincent Kompany’s side off to a fine start. They are certainly a mile away from the Burnley of Dyche.

Newcastle 0-0 Bournemouth: Neto is down with what looks like a muscular issue. They do have Travers on the bench who is a decent backup.

Accrington 1-0 Cheltenham: Prior to today, all of Stanley’s goals this season had come in the second half. Sean McConville has changed that.

Dortmund 0-0 Schalke: It looks like Marco Reus is set to be stretchered off. He is down on the deck and not happy with life.

The whistles are peeping! Here we go!

Wreaths have been laid in the centre circle at St James’ Park prior to kick-off. We will now witness silence across Britain, followed by the national anthem.

It looks pretty sunny around the country. This could be our last Saturday with good weather for a while so we need to soak it in.

“To be fair to Brighton and Palace,” John Davis says, “one of the major reasons was that the car parks were predicted to be very busy around the stadium for students moving in (who took precedence) – not just the cancelled train strikes. Still grates a bit that Newcastle away at Brighton when the train strikes were on went ahead, but no students being dropped off then.

I did watch Elche v Athletic Bilbao last week and the hosts were utterly abysmal so I wouldn’t hold out much hope for them in Barcelona today. They offered some of the worst defending I’ve seen in years.

Barcelona v Elche kicks off at 3.15pm (BST), while Borussia Dortmund host Schalke at 2.30pm.

It’s the Eddie Howe derby at St James’ Park as his current club Newcastle welcome former employers Bournemouth. It is the battle of 11th v 14th which should whet the appetite.

Caretaker Gary O’Neil has impressed in charge of the Cherries since replacing the sacked Scott Parker. It is two weeks since Bournemouth came back from a two-goal half-time deficit against Nottingham Forest to win. O’Neil has had plenty of time to think how to approach this fixture, whether to stick or twist with his tactical changes that brought success in the East Midlands.

It is the only Premier League 3pm kick-off today because Brighton v Crystal Palace was called off due to the planned train strike. It is not that far from south London to Brighton but the authorities saw fit to pull it despite the fact many matches with greater distance between the two were allowed to go ahead.

Obviously, we will see a minute’s silence and the national anthem at all games up and down the country.
